Spain Coach Vicente Del Bosque: We Must Respect Our Tournament Rivals posted May-30 | 169 hits
Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has urged his players to be wary of the threat posed by their rivals ahead of the World Cup finals in South Africa.

La Roja kick off their bid for glory against Switzerland on June 16, and their final warm-up match prior to the tournament is against South Korea in midweek.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Del Bosque discussed Spain’s chances of emerging victorious in the competition and admitted that they must show respect to all of their opponents.

He said, “There is a generalised thought that it will be the normal thing to see Spain win, but this is not the case.

“There are 31 rivals and some of them are on the same level as us, which will make facing them difficult. We are a good side, but the World Cup is something special. We could prove to be our worst enemies.”

Del Bosque also passed comment on his future with the national side, saying that he is hopeful of leading the team into the European qualifying campaign for 2012.

He added, “As long as I am still wanted, I will lead the side towards Euro 2012. Club management is a marathon and there is great pressure – I am enjoying not dealing with the media every day.”
